What can you do with the kids on a wet Bank Holiday weekend? Are you worried how much screen time the kids get? Have you already watched Peppa so much you want to Hog roast her?
One activity we all love is board games, bringing the family together for hours of family fun.
You cannot beat some messy play though, cover the furniture get out the paints and let the kids get creative.
Once you have finished with those and if you are feeling adventurous and don't mind a little bit of mess (well maybe a lot of mess) then why not try some of these recipes for homemade play-doh, moon sand, snow and fairy sand, all guaranteed to keep the kids occupied and pass a wet windy afternoon.
Play - doh
250g Flour
50g Salt
140ml Water
1-2 tsp of cooking oil
Food colouring
Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl and kneed until feels like dough, add food colouring for your preferred colour or glitter for an added sparkle! If you store in an airtight container it can be kept and used again.
Moon Sand
Flour
Baby oil
Glitter
Mix the baby oil slowly into the flour until it has the texture of sand, add glitter. A large tray to contain the mix in will lessen the mess and allow the kids play in a contained area.
Snow
Shaving foam
Corn flour
Mixing the two ingredients together will create a snow mixture, so much fun and a new texture to explore.
Fairy Sand
1 1/2 bar white soap
2 rolls toilet paper
1.5 - 2 cups of coloured water
Shape cutters
Scissors
Ice cream scoop
Shred toilet paper, grate soap and add the coloured water to the soap to form a paste, Pour this over the shredded toilet paper and squeeze together to form solid shapes, you can add glitter or other objects and then mould, cut and create different shapes from it.
Although all kids love messy play and it encourages them to explore different textures, colours and shapes and get creative, helping to make it themselves will lengthen the activity and give them a sense of achievement, so get stuck in and Get Messy!!!
