How To Dress Your Toddler For A Special Event

Whether you are attending an important social event such as a birthday celebration or planning a family photo shoot, it's important that everyone looks the part. And, while you may spend a bit of time pulling together your own outfit, you should also pay close attention to what your toddler wears too. This way, everyone will look the part!

With that in mind, here are some top tips you can use to dress your toddler for a special event.

Choose something you know they’ll love. As soon as toddlers learn to speak, they love to voice their (loud) opinions on just about anything. This means that if they don’t like something, they’ll let you know quickly. As a result, you should take some time to find an outfit you know they will love. Something that is not only comfortable but makes them feel special. For example, a little girl who dreams of becoming a princess will feel perfectly at home in one of A Little Lacey’s girls tutu dresses.

Colour-Coordinate your outfits. This trick is particularly useful if you’re having a family photo shoot, and want everyone’s style to align nicely. While you don’t need to wear identical colours, wearing similar or compatible shades is a great place to start and is sure to make all of your photographs from the day pop. Of course, if you are attending an event such as a wedding, this step may not be your best choice.

Choose comfortable materials. If you’re heading out for a long day or evening, then you should also ensure that the clothes you pick for your little one are particularly comfortable. For example, you should opt for soft, gentle fabrics such as soft cotton, especially if your little one has sensitive skin. Stay away from fabrics that are clingy or itchy, such as wool and other synthetic materials. The fabric you chose for their outfit should also be weather-appropriate, as you don’t want them to be too hot (or too cold) throughout the event either.

Bring emergency stain removal. Toddlers are messy - it's part of their job description. This means that you probably cannot expect them to stay clean for an entire day (in fact, it would probably be a miracle if they did). As a result, you may want to ensure you carry some emergency stain removal supplies in your bag, such as an instant stain remover pen. You should also carry the basics such as baby wipes. Alternatively, you may want to pack a spare outfit with you just in case.

Find comfortable shoes. While their overall outfit should be comfortable, it should be your priority to find shoes that are comfortable, especially if they like to dance or toddle around throughout the day. If your little one has not been walking long, remember that the shoes they wear should be “soft-soled as much as possible so they can feel what they touch with their feet and develop muscle strength”. You should also invest in a comfortable pair of socks.
